“Efficiency is doing the job right, but effectiveness is doing the right job.” Matthew Parvis |
Prioritizing Your Business™72% of all small business owners work more than 50 hours per week. Most small business owners work more than 50 hours per week. In the UK, according to a poll done by MacIntyre Hudson, 72% admit that they do. According to other studies, that number is higher in the US. Are you an overworked entrepreneur? You decided to start your business in order to have freedom. Freedom from reporting to others, freedom to schedule your own time, freedom to create your own financial success. But are you free? Sure, you don't have to report to others. And you have your financial success - or are on the road to it. What about scheduling your own time? Scheduling your own time means that you spend all the time you want running your business. And with your family. And your friends. And that you have that all-important quiet time. As much as you want. But do you have as much time as you want? You rarely spend more than a few minutes talking with your friends. You're missing your kid's games. Your spouse asks to see your ID when you walk in the door. You're so busy running your business that you don't have the time you so desperately want. How would it feel to have the time to do everything that's important to you? You'd grow closer to your kids and spouse. You'd continue to build your friendships - and even find new friends. And you'd do all this while your business flourishes! What's the secret to having the time you want AND have a flourishing business? The secret is that you don't manage time - you manage yourself. Time is fixed - there are only 24 hours in each day. No matter what you're doing, time continues to move on. So if you can't manage time, what's the big deal about managing yourself? Managing yourself may seem easy - until you really think about it. When was the last time you got lost in some detail and spent two hours on it? When did you realize that you'd just spent an hour answering emails that weren't really important? If you can name a time when you did either, or both, of these, then you can see how difficult managing yourself really is. Managing yourself can be learned. Oh, yes. Everyone makes time for those activities they really want to do. Does your teenage son get the trash out faster if it means he can hang out with his friends? Do you make time for that special movie that you want to see? Do you find time to post messages on your favorite list or forum? Now all you have to do is figure out how to do that with everything. Would you learn faster if you had someone who's been there, done that? A person who's tried many, many different techniques and processes? Who's done more time management programs than you can shake a stick at? Then you're in the right spot! I’m Diana Lindstrom, business coach and owner of Shipwrecked Project, and I’ve done every time management program around. Through my years as a project manager, I’ve learned the strategies to create time – and I'm ready to share them with you. To find out more about the strategies that I use to create all the time that I want, you can join me for a free teleclass. (A teleclass is a conference call that's really easy. You call a regular phone number and enter a PIN - and voila, you're part of the conference call. If the phone number is long distance for you, you'll pay for the long distance charges.) This free teleclass introduces you to the basics of creating time. The teleclass is scheduled for one hour, so it's not possible to cover all the strategies on this call. See what some other folks have to say about the free teleclass.
